Partial Dentures

Dentures are divided into fixed dentures and removable dentures. Fixed dentures, such as dental bridges and dental implants, are dentures that the patient cannot remove by himself; removable dentures are dental trays, which are divided into partial or full dental trays, and the patient can put them on or take them out at any time.

Partial dentures are suitable for patients who are missing only some of their teeth. The bottom of the dentures will be hooked on the real teeth; complete dentures are all artificial dentures, and the muscles of the mouth are used to fix the dentures on the jawbone. Most dental trays are made of propylene polymer (plastic tray) or cobalt-chromium alloy (steel tray). The former is lighter and has less foreign body sensation; the latter is more durable and has stronger bite force. The dentist will judge which material should be used based on the patient's condition.

Dental Tray Production

Partial Tray

The dentist will first slightly grind the teeth in the mouth, then take impressions of the upper and lower teeth and capture the biting positions of the teeth. For special partial trays, the bottom of the tray is cast in the dental factory and wax is used to fix the dentures on the bottom of the tray. After the patient tries it on, the dentist makes adjustments.

Removable Dental Tray

The dentist will first take impressions of the patient's upper and lower teeth and capture the occlusal position of the teeth. The bottom of the dental tray is cast in the dental workshop, and the dentures are fixed on the bottom of the dental tray with wax. After completion, the patient can try it on and make adjustments.

How to clean dental trays?

Whether it is a partial or full denture, it also needs to be cleaned frequently every day. Otherwise, the oral mucosa that the denture comes into contact with will cause redness, swelling, pain, ulceration, etc., causing oral inflammation or affecting your own dental health. How to clean a dental tray is as follows:

1. First, pour an appropriate amount of water into the wash basin or place a towel to prevent the denture brackets from falling into the wash basin and breaking.

2. Then remove the removable dentures (denture trays), use a toothbrush and a small amount of dish soap to thoroughly clean every part of the denture trays, including the inside, outside and metal wires of the denture trays.

3. Finally rinse with clean water, soak the cleaned denture trays in clean water (or denture cleaning tablets) overnight, and use them again the next day.

Denture trays can generally be used for 3-5 years. Because the gum bone is not stimulated by the force of the real teeth and feet, the gum bone will deform and narrow over time, causing the denture tray to become unfit for wear. Therefore, the wearer needs to check the oral cavity regularly and let the doctor adjust or modify the dental tray according to the situation.
